My confusion lies herein:
Joe says that there is a waste spark.
Tommy says there is not.

I'm sure they can't BOTH be correct.

I agree with you about the number of pulses
being related to the location of the timing
signal. I pulled out my service manual again,
but it's not as helpful as I'd like.
Page 6-5 (Electrical System) gives the description
and a schematic of the ignition system.

The ignition signal pickup is mounted on the generator
cover. The generator is on the crankshaft. So it
makes snese that there is a pulse every crankshaft rotation,
and not every other crankshaft rotation (so there IS a waste
spark). But it's not explicitly stated or shown. I hate to
buy a two-pulse tach if it's a one-pulse system. The only
uncertainty I have is whether the Suzuki engineers put
in some sort of circuit that tells the ignition only to fire
every other pulse. But then that would have to be coupled
to the camshaft. And why would they bother?

So I guess it's a waste-spark system, one spark per revolution.

I would just rather have proof, rather than figuring it out myself.
